Petition Letter
To Whom It May Concern,
I would like to appeal the grade that I received on my term paper for POLS 242. I believe that some marks that I received on the rubric were too low and therefore led to an overall grade that on the paper that is too low. I also believe that the feedback I received on a paper outline I submitted prior to my submission of the final assignment mislead me.
Firstly, I did submit an outline of the paper prior to my submission of the final paper itself, and my TA, Codin Alex Olteanu, sent me feedback and suggestions for improvement on this outline so that I could apply these improvements to the final paper itself. When I submitted my proposal for my thesis in this outline, I was told by my TA that it was nothing but a ¿¿great thesis¿ and I received no suggestions on how it could be improved. I received improvement suggestions on other parts of my outline, but not my thesis and the fact that the feedback only said great thesis led me to understand that it was great just as it was. Later, in my feedback on the final paper itself, I was told it was a ¿¿fair thesis, but not clearly articulated¿. The thesis I submitted here was completely identical to the one I submitted at the beginning. If I had been told it was not clearly articulated, I would¿¿ve improved it, but the feedback I was first given on the outline communicated to me that there was nothing wrong with it.
Secondly, the requirements called for a minimum of six scholarly sources. I had well over six scholarly, peer-reviewed sources; in fact I have counted that I had thirteen; and I only received a B on this criterion. I don¿¿t think this is fair.
Lastly, I received a B on the grammar and punctuation, which is uncharacteristically low for me. I believe this is unfair as well. I always pay attention to double checking all of my spelling, grammar, and punctuation, and proofread multiple times. Prior to my submission of the paper, I did not notice any spelling, grammar, or punctuation issues that would bring me to achieving no more than a B on this particular criterion.
