Petition Letter
I am a 4th year nursing student at Queens University in very extenuating circumstances. I applied for graduation and I was notified on Friday that I am lacking 3.0 units (120/123) that is required in our program in order to graduate. I understand that this is passed the Solus deadline for enrolment, but I am asking you if I would be able to join the online course of HIST 252 ¿¿ Africa and the Modern World. I have spoken to the online instructor Mary Caesar and the course is open and she is okay with having me enter the course at this date. She has agreed to set up an online meeting with me to discuss an education plan in order for me to be successful in this course. The first assignment is due this Friday and she is willing to give me an extension on that and allow me to perform a make up assignment for the missed participation marks. She informed me that Continuing and Distance Studies would have the final say and that is why am writing this appeal right now. I have also spoken with the academic advisor (Cheryl Pulling) in the school of nursing. I have attained approval for appeal from the school of nursing at Queens University for late entry into this course and they are advocating for me to enter this online course in order to graduate in the Spring with my classmates. Cheryl would be willing to talk with you if it is necessary. I realize that this is week 6 of the semester, but I would be willing to put in all the work necessary to catch up and be successful in this course (even if that means losing some from late or missed participation marks). I am a dedicated and hard working student with a GPA of 4.03. I will do whatever it takes to take this course.
I understand that this is an unusual request, but I am asking from the bottom of my heart if I can take this course. I have never used an appeal process before. A glance at my transcript demonstrates that I have always given academics the upmost importance. I am so angry at myself for letting this happen, but a delay in graduation could mean that I would not be able to write my N-CLEX (nursing license) until November and would disrupt employment opportunities that I have been offered from Whitehorse General Hospital, which has been a bit of a dream for me. I promise you I will be very motivated to complete this course.
Thank you for your time and consideration,
Sean English ¿¿ McEwen
