Petition Letter
Dear Dr. Jenn Stephenson (Associate Dean of Academic),
I am appealing to late add PHGY 215-700(2647) and PHGY 216-700(2648) (Summer, 2021).
My name is Jack, and I am currently a Master of Public Health student at Queen's. In the past few years, as I volunteered in the Revved-up program and working with physiotherapists to heal my injuries, I have grown an immense passion for pursuing a career in rehabilitation. I hope to apply for MScPT programs towards the end of 2021 as my first step toward becoming a physiotherapist. However, I did not get the chance to study physiology during my undergraduate degree (I hold a BAH in Psychology and Geography from Queen's), which is a prerequisite course for all of the programs I am looking forward to applying to.
I came to the decision of taking physiology courses during the summer fairly late (early May 2021), and I missed the enrollment deadline due to the logistical difficulty that comes with registering for non-degree undergraduate courses as a graduate student. After consulting with the course instructor, undergraduate admission staff, health science department staff and my graduate academic advisor regarding my situation, I obtained the registration form for a graduate student to take undergraduate courses in the Faculty of Arts and Science on a Non-Degree, Post-Degree Program (UBASC) last Friday (May 14th). Unfortunately, I was only able to obtain all the required signatures for the course enrollment on the following Monday (May 17th), thus missing the enrollment deadline.
I understand that logistical difficulty is not an excuse for my action; however, I have full confidence in my ability to excel in both courses since I have maintained a 4.10 GPA in my full-time graduate program. I will dedicate twice the amount of learning hours as recommended on the syllabus to catch up on the material and follow my personalized study plan to fulfill the assessments of both courses.
