Petition Letter
I am appealing for permission to complete an independent study abroad program in the Winter 2022 semester, which will be my third year at Queen's. The degree I am working towards is a major in biology and minor in health studies. The study abroad program I am interested in is a Global Health certificate at Hanze University of Applied Sciences in Groningen, the Netherlands. I have clarified with contacts from Hanze that I will receive a transcript for this certificate. I have also been in contact with Anna vander Meulen from the School of Kinesiology & Health Studies. She has examined the courses in the certificate program and confirmed that all five of the classes will transfer to Queen's credits, and three of them are able to count towards my health studies minor. I am aware of my degree requirements and am confident that I will not fall behind. I have also obtained support to complete this study abroad semester from Professor Kenton Ko from the Biology department. I believe that living and learning in an unfamiliar culture will enrich my undergraduate experience and give me new perspectives on both my studies and future career path as I finish my degree and join the workforce.
