Petition Letter
My name is Ryan Fraser, and I am appealing the Faculty¿¿s decision that I must withdraw for three years. During my time at Queen¿¿s, I have struggled to maintain academic success. I have faced problems with mental health for the past three years. I have previously appealed to stay at Queen¿¿s, with the belief that I have developed a solid plan that will create a path for academic success. Although, my extenuating circumstances have made academic life at Queen¿¿s incredibly difficult.
My mental health takes in the form of severe social anxiety, as well as depression. This has seriously affected my life not only in academics, but the day to day life at Queen¿¿s. My previous plan included seeing a therapist, and to reduce my course load so that I am able to focus on getting myself to a state where I can perform academically. I firmly believe that my plan has worked, and as I am writing this, I am confident in saying that I have made very big strides academically from where I was almost three years ago. My goal when I first arrived at Queen¿¿s was to major in Political Sciences, but my health and academic decline has deterred me from pursuing this path. My new plan going forward will focus on getting a general BA degree.
My intention and focus is dedicated to getting my degree from Queen¿¿s University. In order to do this, I need to create a new plan that will get me to where I need to be. After a difficult year in dealing with the uncertainties that this pandemic has brought along, my new plan will start off by completing my degree virtually, from home in British Columbia. I believe that this is the best environment for me to succeed, and there are effective tools and resources at my disposal, which I have easier access to. In turn, this will allow me to pursue the help I need for my ongoing battle with my mental health, and it will also allow me to seek the support I need from friends and family.
