Academic Plan
I am currently a major in Mathematics in the Arts department and plan to switch this degree plan to a BSc in Biology in the following year of study at Queen's. To ensure that I do not face the same extenuating circumstances I have before, I am now on the correct dose of anti-depressants and plan to remain to stay on the medication to combat the severe symptoms of my mental illnesses. I also plan to keep up with my appointments with my occupational therapist along with my counsellor to make sure that I am getting the adequate medical attention I need in this hard time. This will ensure that my mental health is not a distraction to my focus in my academic career and that I will be able to excel the same way I did in third year, but to my full potential this time. Furthermore, I recognized that I do better when away from my parents, and I have set up an agreement with them to stay with my cousin instead of staying at home. Having my own space will allow me to focus without having my parents consistently stress me by watching my every move with my academics. I recognize that choosing to take on a heavier workload after the death of my boyfriend when I was already in a vulnerable position with my pre-existing mental illness was not a good option and for the future, I need to establish a more realistic balance for my academic success. In the future, I plan to be more conscious on the types of courses that I am taking, by making the choice to enroll in courses I believe I am naturally stronger in, such as biology, health, and commerce courses. With all these aspects in mind, I have, and am continuing to ensure that I make the proper decisions and changes necessary to my life to lead myself in a positive direction for my GPA and academic success.
