Petition Letter
To Whom it may Concern:
I am interested in studying at the University of British Columbia for my final year. I am asking to complete my final year away from Queen's University because I am a single mother to my son, Cedar, who is a toddler. This reason is important, for I do not wish to return to Kingston because my son's father lives in Kingston, and he has an extensive criminal history. Cedar has not yet met his father, and I am not sure if at this moment I would like to introduce Cedar to his father. For as I have stated, he has an extensive criminal history, including an assault charge and uttering death threats to a previous partner. It does not take much searching to find his criminal history (Thomas Ferrier). Therefore, considering this situation, Kingston may not be a safe place for me and my son to return to. And I believe the potential threat to my son's and my safety may greatly impact my wellness and jeopardize my ability to learn and succeed at my studies.
Although I am not entirely sure if this threat is real, I still believe it is in my best interest to explore different avenues. Please consider my situation.
Sincerely,
Emily Ranft
