Petition Letter
To whom this may concern,
I hope that all is well and that you are staying healthy and safe during this time.
I am writing because I wish to drop a course/remove a course from my record after the academic deadline. Essentially, what occurred is that I was considering a number of courses to take during this summer, one of which was HIST 242. I added this course, with the full intention of taking it, however upon discovering another course that I found to be more suitable, I added that course and attempted to drop HIST 242. I am not sure exactly why it did not drop, as I clicked the drop button and saw the green check mark appear next to the course afterwards. My only guess would be that my internet was not fully functioning at the time, so the request did not actually go through before I closed the tab.
I had entirely thought that I had dropped the course, therefore, of course I did not participate in any single aspect or activity in the course. Upon reviewing solus to pay off my fees recently, I noticed that this course was still listed and not listed as dropped. When I tried to drop it, I was not allowed to which I assume is because I am past the academic deadline. As it turns out, the course actually ended this past week.
I have contacted the professor of the course, Prof. Michael Hamon, who said he would support my withdrawal, and provide a letter stating his support if required. He additionally said that I could pass on his email (mh217@queensu.ca) if any confirmation of his support is needed, or he needs to be contacted in any regard to this situation. He also advised me that he would leave my solus mark blank, but that that may result in an automatically assigned F, which is exactly what I am fearing.
In this circumstance, I completely understand if there is a financial penalty, however I am appealing to you to please take the course off of my academic record as I believe it would be quite unjust for me to have a failing grade on my record for a course that I did not participate in, due to the fact that I thought it had been dropped.
I would appreciate any empathy in this circumstance, as I will be applying to law schools next year, and having this grade on my record would be detrimental to my future.
All the best.
Sincerely, Tevi
