Petition Letter
Dear Sir/Madam,
I have been charged and marked for a class (it is reflecting on my transcript) that I never participated in in Winter 2021.
I am an international student from India, and I have just got done with my second year. I was enrolled in GEOL104 on 18th January 2021 for 2021 winter along with three other courses in Econ. What reflected on my OnQ was just the three Economics courses.
With my grandmother being extremely ill, I had decided to drop 2 classes as I could barely give any time to academics. Since GEOL104 never showed on my OnQ, I had taken it as given that I am not a part of the course, so that makes it just 1 class. Before March 5th (the deadline for dropping winter 2021 courses without financial penalty), I dropped ECON243.
In March, I got detected with Covid-19 and did not test negative for about 17 days. All this while, keep in mind, that the course never appeared on OnQ. In the same month, there was a death in my family (my grandmother's sister) and my parents had to go outstation for the same. This had left only my sister, my grandmother, and myself at home. (I had applied for academic consideration for one of the assignments in one of the classes for the same). When I was down with covid, I had sent my laptop for servicing as it was automatically deleting all the saved files. It was then that I got to know that my laptop had a virus and the display had to get reset. (Which I had mentioned to the Professor).
Now, 17th April, my grandmother started showing all the Covid-19 symptoms which was extremely scary as she is also a Cancer patient. All of us at home got tested to be on the safe side and I got tested positive AGAIN along with my grandmother and she had to be shifted to the hospital as she required oxygen support and the only way, we could arrange that was if she was admitted in an ICU. (I had applied for Academic Consideration for my ECON255 exam on 19th April). In the same month but later my father also got detected with the virus (but by now the winter term was over).
To cover for the classes and the credits that I dropped in the winter semester, I decided to take two classes this summer, so I don not get burdened in my third and fourth year. When I opened SOLUS, I saw an F next to GEOL104 (which was NOT there when I had opened SOLUS to check my grades later in April).
It has been an EXTREMELY rough three months for my family where I was at my lowest. This has hampered with not only my academic performance but also deadlines to all my desired internships for the summer. I am an international student and have paid an exorbitant amount for the class I never got to attend and participate in AT ALL and at the same time received an F on my transcript.
This is the first (and hopefully the last time), something like this is happening and I am genuinely praying that you can help me in this matter. My family situation has been extremely tight this month (in terms of financially and otherwise) because of everything that went down so far this year.
I can not afford to lose that big a sum of money and get an F in a class that I could not participate in
Regards,
Vasudha
