Petition Letter
Hello Associate Dean and Appeal team,
During my summer course, I was experiencing difficulties studying at my family home, in a non-academic environment and contacted my family physician. My ADHD medication at this time was Straterra, an anti-anxiety drug that increases academic performance as a side effect. Due to stronger ADHD stimulate-drugs occasionally causing anxiety, my doctor recommended this due to it being a non-stimulate drug and to avoid worsening my anxiety.
After beginning my summer course away from my student house and fellow classmates, I reached out to my doctor about possibly switching my prescription to something stronger, and that more directly treats ADHD symptoms. After discussing with her my options and what would best set me up for success in the Fall semester, I needed to start weaning myself off the Straterra, and then begin slowly building up to a full dosage of Concerta.
This process, however, would take about a full month to complete. After talking to both my doctor and an academic advisor, they both gave the same recommendation to start this medication switch now, so that I may have a strong start in September without any medication/dosage issues.
