Petition Letter
Dear Dr. Jill Akinson,
My name is Dakota McMorrow and I am appealing to have my incomplete grade of my winter 2021 course, CHEM 282, extended until the December exam period.
In approximately March of 2021 I became severely mentally ill and was unable to complete any of my classes by April. Since this time, I have worked tirelessly tying to receive help from my conditions. My improvement has taken some ups and downs. I was given a 12 week extension on all my class work, including the exams. I was able to write the exams for my other four classes after the 12 week period ?? around the end of June. However, Professor Carran told me I could rewrite my CHEM 282 exam during the summer exam period, which I was thankful for. However, over the last few weeks my health has rapidly declined again and I am currently unable to complete the smallest of tasks. This includes reading and studying. Furthermore my new medication changes are making it hard to comprehend or memorize information.
Therefore, I am asking if you would please allow for me to write the final exam for this course, CHEM 282, during the December exam period so that my previous work in the course does not go to waste. I am working very hard to improve my health, but it has taken longer than expected. Next year, I am intending to take a much lighter course load, am living at home, and am prepare to drop classes in order to make maintaining good mental health my number one priority. I believe that by having a few more months to improve my condition before writing this exam would help me immensely.
Thank you for your time and consideration of this appeal. I would be extremely appreciative if I was able to have this extension, as it would greatly benefit my mental health as well as my grades. Thank you again.
