Petition Letter
Dear Dr. Johanne Bénard,
I am appealing to drop GNDS 215 (Winter, 2015) and GNDS 340 (Winter, 2015) past the add/drop deadline.
I have been dealing with extenuating circumstances during my studies that have made it impossible to complete my studies. These include both psychological and physical challenges, specifically severe depression, borderline personality disorder, and an eating disorder. This has affected my ability to attend class on a regular basis as well as concentrate on reading or completing school work. It has also resulted in hospitalizations that have further impacted my studies. I have been working with a psychiatrist since 2014, however the condition has worsened as of December/January 2015. Under his guidance we have decided that the best plan for me going forward is to drop down to part-time studies, taking only one online course, so I can focus on my health.
My future plan is to continue to work towards a degree at Queen¿¿s at a slow pace under the supervision of my psychiatrist, who has agreed that it is appropriate for me to take one course at a time as a part-time student. I plan to retake these courses I am dropping. If my condition improves, we will re-evaluate the situation. I may also look into changing programs from a Bachelor of Arts (Honors), to a general Bachelor of Arts.
Thank you for considering my appeal.
Sincerely,
Meghan Rand
