Petition Letter
My name is Alexandria Morrissey and I'm currently in my last term of my Bachelor of Arts (Honors) with a focus in political studies. Over the past few months, I have experienced extenuating personal circumstances that have made negatively impacted my ability to continue and complete the two courses, HLTH 332 and HLTH 230. I am, as a result, appealing to have these courses dropped. Thank you for allowing me the time to explain my circumstances.
Over the past year, I have increasingly struggled with my health, both physically and mentally. Because of this, my self and work efficacy have taken a hit, impacting my ability to adequately perform even standard daily activities. This has translated over to every aspect of my life and have stopped me from completing my courses to the best of my abilities and stopped me from being the student I know and have proven to be.
I have struggled with symptoms of depression that have impacted aspects of my life that at its peak prevented me from eating and getting out of bed. While I have always struggled with anxiety, the COVID-19 pandemic and the required online learning measures has increased it immensely. Additionally, my family and I have been dealing with an unexpected incident that has prevented my ability to be present in my education. These stressors have had a physical toll on my body, causing my health to deteriorate and frequent visits to the Queen's wellness clinic.
Throughout these courses, I have struggled to keep up with the material and have missed deadlines due to these health struggles. I believe this is not in true character of what I am and what I can do. I have attempted to power through these courses, but it has reached a point that I cannot continue at this time.
I have reached out to Queen's Student Wellness Services for resources of how to help myself and prevent this situation from happening again. Attached is supporting documentation from Wellness Services to support my appeal.
