Petition Letter
My name is Raquel Wallace, I am entering my third year at Queens University in an undergraduate program for Film and Media. I have thoroughly enjoyed my experience at Queens so far and look forward to finishing my bachelors degree and potentially doing a graduate program as well. Over the past year and a half, I have been working part-time in the marketing field doing digital communications. My goal in attending Queens University was to develop my skills and understanding of marketing and communications through the courses offered in Film and Media. As I enter my third year, I have met many students attending both US and Canadian Universities in media and communication programs and have found that they have access to courses that more substantially prepare them with skills that would be in high demand from hiring companies. In addition, I have gained part-time employment with a private equity investment firm looking to have me develop their marketing and digital media presence. Although my degree courses to date have been excellent, they have been mainly film production related and I require more media related courses to be competitive in the market place. I have found courses at Arizona State University that clearly provide skills that make me relevant in the communications market space. These courses include media entrepreneurship which teaches about revenue models for entrepreneurial enterprises, search engine optimization skills and how to identify and monitor digital audiences. Each of these courses are relevant to the current tasks of the organization I work for, as well, they are requirements for all companies hiring marketing staff. Unfortunately, Queens does not offer courses of this caliber to their Film and Media students at this time despite their place in giving students leading edge skills necessary to compete with students coming from other Universities. I am submitting this Appeal Letter to secure your approval to take these supplementary courses.
