Petition Letter
Dear Associate Dean,
During May of 2021, I was put on academic withdrawal due to having a GPA below 0.7, as per academic regulation 13. I would now like to appeal the decision to withdraw from Queen??s for a year, as well as to have the ability to drop courses after the current deadline.
Multiple extenuating circumstances greatly affected by academic performance, especially in the winter 2021 term; therefore, academic withdrawal is not the most appropriate solution for me.
The first extenuating circumstance affecting my GPA is the COVID-19 pandemic. The combination of an inability to collaborate, study and interact with peers, living in a household with dependant family, and an inability to focus due to my environment all made studying very difficult for me. During the 2021 academic year, I will live away from my family home, and therefore I will not have to deal with my previous environment, nor care for my family. By being around other students, I believe my grades will improve significantly.
The second extenuating circumstance affecting my GPA is the passing of my grandfather. Although I was given academic consideration for this circumstance, it was not sufficient, and therefore my grades were impacted. His passing affected me greatly, especially since I had been living with him for some time before his passing. You can see his passing reflected in my grades, as before the winter term, when he passed, my GPA was above 2.0.
I sincerely hope you consider my appeal and allow me to enroll in the 2021 academic year.
