Petition Letter
Dear Dean,
I have discussed my examination with my instructors and I had hoped to be fit enough to sit examinations over the summer term. However, this arrangement proved to be impossible due to medical problems.
Since the summer of last year (2020), I had experienced symptoms of vision strain and irritation with bowel pain. Visits to the Doctor proved there were no legions in the bowel. However, there was eye haemorrhaging in the right eye. I visited various doctors to check my body, and they were not sure about the diagnosis. As a result, I found it difficult to concentrate on the text during the first year. Thus, I enclose the medical certificates for relevant periods. Also, I started studies with vision problems and bowel discomfort while studying at university. The symptoms received include extreme fatigue, eye strain, nausea, migraines, abdominal pain and dizziness. My doctors believed that I also contracted COVID-19 like symptoms from the 1st term up to the Summer-term when I had my first injection. I had my second injection recently in September 2021.
My instructor for MICR 270 suggested that I apply for the Aegrotat standing quoting the following:
10.3.1 - Aegrotat Standing
I. Aegrotat estimated standing in a course is reserved for situations in which a student, who has completed and passed at least 60 per cent of the work for a course, but because of illness or other extenuating circumstances beyond their control, is unable to complete all the work of the course (see Academic Regulation 6). Aegrotat grades will be included in the student??s grade point average (GPA) and can be used as credit earned towards a degree program.
II. A student seeking Aegrotat standing in a class must have the written support of the instructor and must submit a formal appeal to the Associate Director (Studies) (see Appeal of Academic Decisions, Section 3). If the request is granted, this estimated letter grade would appear on the student??s transcript together with a note reading ??Aegrotat Estimated Grade.?
III. Students may be granted Aegrotat and/or Credit standing for a maximum of 36.0 units during their entire program.
I have decided to apply for Aegrotat standing in MICR 270, CHEM 281, and GLPH 385. I would request that my GLPH 385 grade would include my final piece of work (essay).
I have applied for numerous examination extensions this year for my subject because of health concerns and lack of medical treatment during provincial and pandemic lockdown periods.
I would also request an extension of the incomplete grade in BCHM 270 to sit the final examination.
Yours sincerely,
Michael Edwards
