Petition Letter
Dear Associate Dean,
After a great deal of consideration, I believe I need to change the program path I am on. Until about two weeks ago, I was certain I wanted to obtain a Computing degree with a Cognitive Science specialization to pursue a career in technology. However, I realize now my true passion is interacting with people, discovering their journeys, and learning what motivates them. That said, I strongly believe my real calling is in the field of Psychology. It was always my second choice when applying for university, however, I chose the more practical field of computing because of the current job market. I realize now I need to follow my passion.
In a rush to drop the necessary courses without financial penalty (I was informed it was September 20th and didn't know of the 24th extension), I dropped my Computing courses for the fall, opting to take Sociology as a backup in case I didn't get into the Psychology program when applying this coming Spring. This was a rash, hurried decision, and in the following days I realized it would be a far better decision career-wise to keep Computing as a backup option instead.
I am appealing to add CISC 221 001_(1559) back onto my schedule for the Fall semester. I hope you can take into account how rushed I felt to drop courses before the original deadline, and my last-minute indecision about the career I wanted to pursue. I am now confident that I want to keep Computing as my backup option for a program should I not get into the Psychology program (which I've heard is very difficult to transfer to). And on the more practical side of things, I am also seriously considering staying in Computing and completing my Cognitive Science degree, as I think the degree would offer many career options.
I understand that typically when a student adds a class to their schedule after it has already begun, they receive 0's for every assignment/test up until the point they've entered the course, without the opportunity to complete earlier assessments retroactively. I am not requesting to redo any previous assessments, only that the grade on my submission for the first assignment in the course be retained. It would be a shame to lose marks for work I've already completed.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
Sincerely,
Jonathan Chelin
