Petition Letter
Dear Dr. Atkinson
I am writing my appeal letter today to add the course KNPE 400 ?? Professional Issues in Allied Health (001-LEC Regular, and 005-TUT Regular). I would like to add this course into my Fall term semester to complete all my required credits for my degree to be on track to graduate in December. This will allow me to avoid financial difficulties by eliminating a winter term filled with extra courses that are not required to maintain a full course load. Furthermore, I would also like to maintain a full-time course load in the Fall term to avoid my OSAP funding being reduced because I support the financial costs of university/living entirely on my own. Completing my degree this semester is also important to me because I would like to use the winter term to focus entirely on my mental health as my father passed away unexpectedly this year which has taken a mental and emotional toll.
The reason that I originally missed the add course date on September 20th was as a result of a concussion that I endured while at work on September 12th. After visiting my doctor, she advised that I take 2 weeks away from work and school to allow the brain injury to heal to avoid long term side-effects. This being said, during my time of recovery I missed the final date to add the course to my fall term.
The reason why it was not originally added is because I had originally planned to take CHEM 112 and BIOL 102 as preparation for the MCAT. Unfortunately, after realizing my financial situation moving back to Kingston, I realized that it would be extremely difficult to support myself both semesters with additional courses that are not academically required. Upon meeting with a financial advisor, I was recommended to only take the courses that are needed for my program. However, as a result of the head injury and required recovery time, I had missed the deadline to add KNPE 400 and make the right academic and financial decision for myself.
