Petition Letter
Dear Associate Dean,
I am appealing to drop ENG 100 (fall 2021-winter 2022)
I am appealing to drop this course as I am failing it. I did not drop this course earlier as I did not receive any grade or feedback for the course until November 3rd, which was after the deadline for drop dates.
I also did not have academic accommodations set in place, when completing the assignment for the course which I did not receive a passing grade for. Due to my disability (documentation attached), I needed extra time for the assignment which caused my grade to suffer due to it being overdue.
At the time, I also did not have my academic accommodations set in place and was waiting for an intake appointment in November. My teacher had emailed me after this, telling me that I had misunderstood part of the assignment and gave me a chance to redo it. By redoing it I lost 4 marks being it was completed even farther after the due date. When I went to resubmit my assignment, I did not realize at the time that I had sent the wrong assignment into ONQ. I did not realize this until it was too late, and was given a 45%. This assignment was the only one I have been graded on so far in the course making it accumulate for my current overall grade.
Even once I have academic accommodations in place, due to my disability, I think balancing 5 courses is already a big struggle, which is a major cause of stress and anxiety. I do not think continuing this course will be good for my mental health and wellbeing. After consulting, my TA, as well as friends and family, the decision to drop the course seems to be in my best interest.
As I want to major in Philosophy, English is not a mandatory course to get into this major.
I am also planning on taking a summer course as well, and have an idea of a course I would like to take next semester that would replace my current ENG100 course.
Sincerely,
Kristin Chura
