Petition Letter
This is an appeal letter to drop CLST 205 course without an academic penalty.
Unfortunately, I have been suffering from a recurrent depressive episode and chronic suicidal ideations since 2019 due to my immigration and other factors. Last year, it became more intense in terms of suicidal ideations and I was starting to have a plan for it. After a while, I started to feel better and became much more stable with a more structured lifestyle. This is why I felt that I am able to handle a 4-course load this semester.
However, in October, I started to feel more neurotic, unstable and then, all of a sudden, I slipped into a depressive episode with frequent panic attacks.
This made me put all courses on hold and I even considered dropping or withdrawing from this semester with a therapist at queens student services. After a while, I was put on additional medications and I slightly got better and can handle other courses but I cannot manage to deal with the elective (that I wished to get dropped) in addition to the other three. Thus, I considered dropping this course in order to be able to complete the three other courses. For future semesters, I would choose to go with three courses (even if I felt stable and resilient) to avoid late dropping.
