Petition Letter
To Whom It May Concern:
I am writing this as I am requesting to drop your course for this semester. I would like you to know that this is not due to any action on my professor's part as he has provided a great style of teaching.
Unfortunately, I have not been performing up to an academic level that I would typically expect of myself as I have been very pre-occupied with my immigration process with the United States. My family and I are planning on immigrating, and I failed to expect the amount of work on my part that is required in this process. As I am the only member in my family that is fluent in English and over the age of 18 my time is vital for this process. I am in constant talks with our immigration lawyer as well as gathering my family??s necessary paperwork.
Along with my previous responsibilities, I am also in constant contact with the National Visa Center, US Consulate, and panel physicians ensuring my family has the correct vaccinations and documentation. This process has been in works for the better part of three years but just now has the obligation risen to this extent as our lawyers say that we are nearing the end of the process.
These obligations have affected all my grades but most severely in this class. I find that my time constraint does not allow me to fully focus on the class modules as I have four other classes I must also be responsible for. Specifically, I have struggled with the time management for our assignments in the class, as each one makes up 17% of our grade it has taken serious blows to my potential course grade. The quizzes in our class have also affected my grade as they require a very steady review of the material beforehand. A review that I have not been able to complete to an exceptional standard.
I have tried to explain this to my family, but we do not have the resources to hire any more lawyers or aid services. As this has been my family??s goal for the better part of a decade, and my parent??s goal for the majority of their life, I feel as if I cannot abandon them.
I understand this is no excuse for my poor work in the class, but I would rather not waste the time and resources of the school and professor as I cannot fully devote myself to this class this current term.
I would like to add that I had contacted Fukran Alaca, the professor of the course, firstly and explained my circumstances. He was very understanding and supportive of my decision to retake the class next semester.
I have attached some ??proof? of my immigration process, it being correspondence with the National Visa Center along with some correspondence with our lawyers. If you have any reservations I will try to provide more, unfortunately I am not allowed to share vital documents as the US State Department deems it ??Confidential?.
I understand that this past the drop deadline, but I ask you to consider my circumstances, I would like you to know that I am very grateful for all the administrators that have assisted me throughout this process thank you for taking the time to read and understand my circumstances, it means more than you could know . I promise in the future this class will get my full attention and effort.
