Dear Dr. Jill Atkinson / Dr. Jenn Stephenson,
I am appealing to drop BCHM410, BCHM421, and BCHM432 (Fall 2021).
I am registered with QSAS due to my extenuating circumstances that are beyond my control. Due to my extenuating circumstances, I was sick starting from Oct 18 ?? Nov 5. At that time, I was unable to participate/attend any of my courses due to being out of commission. It took a particularly big impact on my midterm grades along with BCHM421, which I must go into the lab so I could complete my assignments. Once I was no longer sick, I had to catch up on my assignments for my classes and learn the content, and as such I sent out emails to my profs for my accommodations. Even with the extensions, I was behind in all my classes doing assignments, and not able to attend them, further falling behind in classes. An example was my extension for BCHM421 review paper, and BCHM432 presentation. Oct 18 ?? Nov 5 is about three weeks of classes I had to catch up. At that time, and currently I??ve also been dealing with mental health problems, further delaying my progress and performance in theses classes. I booked an appointment with a mental health counsellor to try to address this. I understand that my performance in these courses have been impacted and I would not be able to appropriately complete them.
I am registered in two other courses besides the ones I am appealing to drop, but I believe these three courses have been affected the most as mentioned with BCHM421.
I did not drop the courses earlier because I was not aware on how much content I missed, and these are my core courses, so I wanted to attempt to catch up, but in the end it was inevitable. I am going to retake the courses the following year.
Thank you for your consideration,
Ethan Zhou
