Petition Letter
My name is Lauren Katz (student number 20153525) and I am a third-year student majoring in Gender Studies, and I am writing to you to appeal for approval to study abroad. I have applied to the University of New Haven in Barcelona, Spain through CEA. I struggled in high school with mental health issues and have come out the other side stronger than ever. My experiences at Queens University have allowed me to challenge myself both socially and academically and I feel that I have proven to myself that I am a capable student. I have become a dedicated, hard-working, and motivated student and I am proud of what I have accomplished so far.
To that end, I feel that a semester abroad would further allow me to challenge myself both emotionally and academically. This opportunity is one that I will not have again and I would appreciate if you would grant me approval for my appeal to leave Queens University for the winter 2022 session, so that I can study in Barcelona.
The program that I have been accepted to is the Liberal Arts and Social Sciences program at the CEA? Barcelona Center, through the CEA study abroad program. This program includes Gender Studies. The dates of the program are?1/12/22 - 4/30/22. I have been looking through the many courses offered, and these are a few of the potential courses I have been looking at. I find these courses to all be connected to my major, as well as, specific courses only offered through this program.?
-Immigration, Race & Identity in Contemporary Spain
-A History of Persecution: Five Centuries of Religious and Race
-Immigration, Race & Identity in Contemporary Spain?
-A History of Persecution: Five Centuries of Religious & Racial Prejudice
-EU Integration: Theories, Institutions & Issues?
-Cultural History of Spain: From Dictatorship to Globalization (1940s - 2000s)?
-Travelers, Exiles & Tourists: The Search for Identity & Self in Literary & Filmic Expression?
-International Journalism & Global Media?
-Brand Barcelona: Marketing the Global City?
-International Business
??
These are all flexible and can be changed. Due to my accommodations, I am able to take 4 courses a semester which is why I will be taking a fifth year here at queens to ensure all of my core courses are completed and my electives. I am ensuring and dedicated to completing my degree successfully. I believe this is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for me and am hoping for your approval and support
