Petition Letter
I am appealing to drop CISC 452 after the drop period. This semester I've been dealing with a decline in my mental health and ability to cope with course load. This is the first time in my academic career that I have been close to failing a class. I am not a student who refuses to put effort into difficult classes. Throughout my four years, I have maintained above a 3.5 gpa while taking a full course load as well as being placed on the dean's honor list for a semester. Therefore it was difficult for me to admit to myself that I would not be able to cope with this course which is the reason I did not drop this course earlier. However, a decline in my mental health has made it difficult for me to focus and deal with the overpowering stress I've been experiencing resulting in an inability to turn in adequate work. There are days were I was unable to do anything at all. I do not feel as if I am gaining anything from this course in terms of content, but rather it has been negatively impacting my ability to focus on other courses.
I'm close to graduating and this is not a necessary course for my degree. I will have to take a course to make up the credits but I would much rather see a dropped course than a failed one. This is a new experience for me as you can see from my academic record, but I had to come to the conclusion that I am struggling in an unhealthy way. I would greatly appreciate having this course dropped because I do not believe that it accurately represents my academic merit.
