Petition Letter
Over the last two and a half to three years I have struggled with several issues pertaining to my mental well-being. For the most part, I have been able to function to some minimum levels that have allowed me to complete my first two years of schooling at Queen??s, but it has become increasingly apparent to me that my struggles around my mental health have diminished to the point where I need to ask for this academic appeal. I recognize that while I have been able to pass all of my courses during my time at Queen's, the effects of my mental health have impacted my capability to perform my best within all of my courses.
I have sought counseling and guidance from the school, as well as from my parents and healthcare professionals in an attempt to overcome this. But, it has come to the point that myself, my counselor, and my parents feel that in the best interest of my overall health and well-being I need to take a break and concentrate solely on getting myself back to a point where I can be a fully engaged student and useful member of the Queen??s community. I am torn by this decision, but I truly believe it is in my best interest to take a step back from my academics at this time. Within the last year, I have had two incidents that have ended up with me needing to seek medical attention at KGH. I have simply reached the point where I do not feel I will be able to complete the entirety of my courses this term without failing out of my courses, or causing myself more mental harm and anguish.
