Submit an Academic Petition or Appeal

Hello, I am requesting to drop a course after the one-term deadline. In my first year, the only person who was looking after me ended up passing away, and due to this, I developed depression. Though this was the normal grief period, there were other circumstances that resulted in me being able to grieve (such as having to take care of my younger brothers, one who has behavioural issues). In my following second and third year, I developed Major Depressive Disorder and Generalized Anxiety Disorder. They got rather severe to the point where I nearly dropped out of university, but COVID occurred and I was able to go home and heal while taking online courses. The reason I am appealing my course so late is because of a heavy lack of motivation and severe anxiety that caused me to have panic attacks at the thought of my trauma. With the help of therapists, counsellors, and psychiatrists, I was able to get the help I needed and now in my fifth year, I feel strong enough and comfortable enough to finally address the issue in a proper and appropriate manner.

I am a little unsure of how the appeal process works, but I believe this late request must be accepted first before I can appeal for the specific course, so I will write a separate appeal for that.
