Academic Plan
Originally, I was in a generalized psychology plan and due to poor mental health and grades, I was unable to switch to any other degree. This meant that I would have been unable to stay in my concurrent education plan as I was not in an honours degree. My second and third years were really rough, and due to my mental health, my academics reflected this. However, I did not want to continue to remain on such a path and so I took the steps I needed to get help. I pushed myself to speak to several counsellors, therapists, and psychiatrists in order to work on myself. We went through many crisis strategies and cognitive behavioural therapy. I also started anti-depressants and focused a lot on strengthening my mental health.
In my fourth year, I was feeling a little better and then began to take steps to improve my academics. I was not going to let my trauma ruin the rest of my life. I spoke to several academic advisors and we made plans to switch from a general psychology degree into an honours degree. I worked very hard and contacted professors and heads of boards. With the math and biology departments approval, I was able to switch into the BIMA program, which also means I was able to stay in my concurrent education degree. I am currently on track to graduate with the BIMA degree by the end of this year and hopefully graduate with the concurrent education degree by the end of next school years summer.
I have been able to work hard and achieve a B average in my biology subjects, however, my math ones are not as strong. While I am on the right path to get that B average by next semester, I would like to help raise that mark by dropping the Math course I failed in my third year. I feel like my second and third year marks truly don't represent me as a person, and while I cannot take back the rough years that I had, I want to do my best to fix what I can and work on what I can. I need a B average in my math and biology subjects because it is a requirement to get into the Intermediate/Senior sector of concurrent education.
