Petition Letter
To Whom It May Concern,
I am writing today to request that the 21-day appeal deadline be waived.
The reason behind this appeal is the result of health issues that affected my ability to focus, concentrate and to attend classes. Because this happened early in the Fall term I fell behind but I did take steps to try to mitigate the impact on my grades. I notified my professors when I became ill and was unable to attend classes. In follow up discussions I informed them that I was coming back to a full study load in advance of my doctors recommendation. I requested extra assignments to improve grades, but this option was not available and I dropped one course so that I could focus on my key subjects.
I am hoping to appeal two courses, that as a result of my illness, I was unable to perform at my best, including the assigned readings that I fell behind on. It is evident from my transcripts the grades I received in these two courses are not the norm for me. My appeal is based on the opportunity to maintain my grade point average and the marks I would have had if I was well. The reason l am appealing these two of my four classes from the Fall term is because of the volume of work covered during my absence from school and I fell very far behind.
My Grade point average in first year was 3.0 with my lowest grade being a C-, which supports that my D- in GNDS 212 and SOCY 226 are not an example of the level of performance I strive for.
The reason for this late appeal is that I was unaware that an appeal process existed. This is not meant as an excuse, I truly thought that a continuing dialogue with my professors was the best way to manage this difficult time.
