Petition Letter
Dear Associate Dean,
I am writing this letter to detail the extenuating circumstances that are preventing me from completing my current courses. I am therefore asking for a late drop of all of my courses: POLS 211, POLS 280, POLS 261, POLS 250 and DEVS 260. I am going on medical leave next semester due to my current health struggles.
In early October 2021 I experienced an unprecedented health issue. It prevented me from attending in-person lectures and tutorials. I was able to complete some work at home with a significant degree of difficulty. However, it progressively got worse despite my attempt to get help through Queens Health Services and Student Wellness Services. I was seen by both Dr. Moreau, a family physician and Meghan Leuprecht, a Social Worker. Despite receiving help from both parties my health continued to deteriorate.
On November 7, 2021, this culminated in me being rushed by first responders to the Emergency Department at Kingston General Hospital with a health crisis. I was later discharged into the care of my parents. I returned home to Toronto where I am currently working with my Health Care Team to stabilize my health. I am currently unable to live alone due to my condition. I am also very limited in what I am able to do. I have not been able to complete my final projects nor have I been able to attend lectures or tutorials. While I have attempted to complete my final papers the stress has significantly exacerbated my symptoms which is detrimental to my health. It was also determined by my Health Care Team and I that attempting to write my exams would only worsen my health. Therefore, it would be impossible for me to achieve a passing grade in any of my courses.
As stated previously I am going to go on medical leave. It would be impossible for me to remain in university next term. I need to get my health issues under control before I can succeed academically. I am looking forward to being able to return to Queens once I am healthy again.
I have attached a letter written by Meghan Leuprecht in support of my situation.
Thank you very much for your consideration,
Kyra Cook
