Petition Letter
Dear Dean and Associate Deans of the Faculty of Arts & Science:
I am Yushang-Shirley Huang (20062173), a third-year international student major in Psychology. I am appealing to late drop for GNDS 311 Feminist Thought (2021 Fall); GNDS 380 Special Topics: Gender Studies (2021 Fall); PSYC 271 Brain and Behaviour I (2021 Fall); PSYC 333 Human Sexuality (2021 Fall)
I was diagnosed with Major Depressive Depression, Bulimia Nervosa, and a high prone to Bipolar on September 2020. After that, I went back to China to reunite with my family and to receive treatment. I have been actively receiving treatment since then. I took 6 courses during the 2020-2021 academic year, however, the workload would still be a burden to me. When the time comes to September 2021, after I talked with my family and the doctor, and considered my health condition, we all decided to take a semester off. However, when I talked with my family and the doctor, I did not know, or maybe because of the side-effect of the medication that I forgot I have been successfully enrolled in the four courses I list above. As later on, I stopped almost all my social activities and was involved in a severe social withdrawal, I did not check my email, or log in to any of my accounts. Therefore, I took no action to drop these courses right away. As I got better, I started to catch up with everything. It was not until yesterday that when I log in to my queen's account I found myself enrolling in these courses. After that, I contacted the school immediately and wrote this appeal.
I sincerely appeal to late drop for GNDS311, GNDS380, PSYC271, and PSYC333. For my future study, I will check my messages regularly, make a reminder, and let my family get more involved in my study. For example, send a copy of my schedule to my mom and let her to check with me whether I forget anything or not. Moreover, I should use the school recourses more efficiently. For example, registering with the QSAS to keep the school updated, consulting an academic advisor for advice. I sincerely apologized for any inconvenience I caused and appreciate your time.
