Petition Letter
Dear Associate Dean,
I am writing this letter of appeal to request that the ??HIST 108 Early Globalization? course which I took during the 2021 fall semester, be dropped from my academic record. I am appealing for the course to be dropped past the deadline for no academic penalty, because of extenuating circumstances in my family life that have been very difficult for me to handle. My father was diagnosed with incurable brain cancer this past summer and this event has significantly adversely affected my mental health.
Like many others, my deteriorating mental health has been compounded by the ongoing pandemic and I have been in a depressed state for several months. This has interfered with my ability to work on some assignments for my courses and in turn, has affected my history class the most. I have been having trouble sleeping, trouble concentrating, as well as experiencing high levels of anxiety. The reason I did not drop the class earlier is that I believed that I would have been able to complete and pass the course considering I had received better grades at the beginning of the course but unfortunately that wasn??t the case. My other courses were affected as well, however, I managed to pass them. To deal with this circumstance in the future, I am presently consulting with a team of health care professionals and have also set up a meeting with student services.
Thank you very much for taking the time to read this letter and considering my request,
Sincerely,
Katherine Meligrigoris
