Petition Letter
To whom it may concern,
My name is Anna Siju and I am a 5th year student here at Queen??s University School of Arts and Science. I am writing to appeal to pass/fail some of my courses from the previous semesters at Queen??s. I believe there were extenuating circumstances that were beyond my control that contributed to my low grade.
The transition to University was a difficult one for me, and as a result my mental health suffered, on top of there were several unforeseen circumstances in my personal life making this even more difficult. My father lost his job, and my mother was out of province for school, as a result my Father had to relocate out of town leaving me to be the sole caregiver for my two younger brothers during the week. The following years, my parents made the decision to purchase a house but due to financial complications I had to help with the process, and contribute financially to pay off existing loans. In order to do this I am currently working three jobs to be able to afford my own tuition and housing expenses while also helping my parents and being enrolled in classes. All of these factors were a huge burden and this whole situation took a toll on my mental health, and in an effort to overcome this I had seen therapists throughout my University career. As a result of the situation I was unable to complete these courses to the best of my ability. I am submitting this appeal now as I did not realize this was an option before. I have worked really hard to bring up my grades and do better in my other classes, and in more recent semesters my overall GPA has improved. I will continue to work hard towards completing my degree my final semester.
I would greatly appreciate it if you would consider changing my letter grade to a Pass grade instead for the following courses; MATH 121, MATH 111, MATH 339, and STATS 263.
Thank you for your consideration.
Sincerely,
Anna Siju
