SOCY 388 APPEAL: Credit Standing
Dear Whom It May Concern,
I am writing to you to appeal my final mark for sociology 388. I am asking for a credit standing due to extenuating circumstances. These past two months have been extremely difficult on me physically and mentally.
On December 11, I woke up and when I tried to stand up I instantly felt dizzy and disoriented. My dizziness was so bad and stressful that I could not even stand or sit up. I was forced to lie down and close my eyes the entire day. The next morning it became much worse. After talking with my parents I decided I needed to go to the emergency room. Since the dizziness was extremely discomforting and consuming, I had to call an ambulance. I was hospitalized for three days and after several tests I was diagnosed with vertigo. Vertigo is a condition with no cure or medicine to help the symptoms. I was sent home and left to deal with this illness alone. I was trapped in my room for an entire week, unable to move or even leave the room. Once I returned to my home town for the holidays, it worsened so I went to the hospital again. I was told to return home, rest and see a physiotherapist. The entire month of December and January, I have been left to deal with this debilitating condition. I spent my entire days in my room in the dark, trying to do basic functions I once could perform effortlessly. My professor, Mrs. Myers has been completely accommodating to my condition. She gave me time to recover but told me that in order to pass the course I must submit the final paper. Being in my debilitating condition, it was merely impossible for me to complete a 10 page paper with extensive research. I tried my best to complete the paper and unfortunately failed it which overall affected my mark. Under my conditions it was merely impossible to do well in that paper and I understand my grade but I completed everything in the course and would like to ask for a credit standing.
I have plans to go to law school and this mark of a D+ will negatively affect my chances. I am pleading with the committee to allow me to receive credit standing due to my extenuating circumstances. After talking with my social worker at Toronto General Hospital, I learned more about this condition and believe it is necessary to get an appeal regarding my credit. Vertigo is a condition in which you experience dizzy spells, in my case it was constant that restricted my movement and overall being. During the height of my vertigo, I could barely get out of bed and it was very difficult to complete any outstanding assignments. I have attached medical records that show my condition and hospital stay and I hope you will consider my case.
Thank you for your time and consideration. I hope to hear from you shortly
