Petition Letter
To Whom It May Concern,
I am writing this appeal as I believe I should be allowed to enroll in Pols 212 or Pols 244. I would have never missed the deadline for class enrollment, had I not been given misinformation and misled by the Arts and Science department. In early Jan, I called and spoke with someone about being waitlisted for Pols 212 and what my options were. As I was 6th on the list, the person I spoke with, reassured me that I would ??likely get into the course?. They went on to say, that most people drop the course ??at the last minute? and I would then receive an enrollment email the evening of the 21st or within a few days afterwards. They also told me that I would need to keep an open course spot in my schedule to allow for said enrollment.(This misinformation was detrimental)
I did as advised, which resulted in an empty course slot this semester. Had I known what I was now told today by a different administrator- I would never have stayed on the waitlist for Pols 212 and would have enrolled in Pols 244.
These are courses I need for my program and I would never want to jeopardize this.
This morning, I was frustrated, anxious and disappointed that I did not get off the waitlist and enrolled into Pols 212.
I immediately contacted the Arts and Science department. I spoke with a different person, who told me that I missed the deadline and my only option now is to take an online summer course.
This is completely unjust and through no fault of my own, I am in this situation. I have repeatedly reached out to advisors, the department and program leads for academic guidance. Not once, did anyone say this would occur. As I said, I would have absolutely enrolled in Pols 244, had I known the outcome of relying on a waitlist.
This whole situation has taken a toll on my mental health. I have worked tirelessly to maintain my GPA despite the stress and social isolation of online education. I am frustrated that I was clearly misled and given inaccurate information by Arts and Science department, and left an open class. The thought of taking another online course is causing me undue stress, anxiety and worry. In prior years, online learning has caused many negative emotions and severely impacted my mental health. As I said before, I would never have only taken four courses. I need to complete my academic year as planned. To pay for my education, I have to work full time this summer, which is why I can??t even fathom taking any summer courses.
I have a strong case to be allowed enrollment in either Pols 212 or Pols 244, which is why I have written this appeal.
