Petition Letter
Dear Associate Dean,
My name is Zijuan Lin, and my student number is 20105653. I am appealing to add STAT 457 (winter 2022).
I once took Stat 457 but mistakenly dropped this course and took Math 414 instead to meet the requirement of graduation. I am not currently located in Canada but Math 414 requires attendance in person strictly. The professor of Math 414 told me that I am unable to make up for the attendance score in any other way, also the professor requests us to present the final project in person instead of presenting it through zoom which she demonstrated in the syllabus. All of my other courses provide recoding materials and online exams except Math 414. The reason I am not in Canada is that I was diagnosed having an ovarian cyst, to be prepared for any further possible treatment I went back to China, as the university announced that the final exams would be taken online last semester. However, getting back to Canada would be a complicated thing for me. It would be a challenge for me to find a place that allowed me to rent for only two months, and the air ticket is also hard to purchase now. This is the last semester of my undergraduate study. I really need to take a 4-level course to meet graduation requirements, and Stat 457 can be finished without presenting in person.
The reason I dropped STAT 457 was that I found it is a big challenge for me to code in R, but I worked hard on this course before I dropped it. Although I am not good at coding and dealing with data, taking Stat 457 can allow me to learn more related skills and knowledge that can be very useful in my work.
I have emailed the instructor of STAT 457, professor Song, and the Mathematics and Statistics Undergraduate Chair about this. They told me they could enroll me in STAT 457 with your approval of this appeal. I would really appreciate that if you would like to consider re-enrolling me in this course.
Really appreciate for spending time to read this appeal.
Sincerely,
Zijuan Lin
