Petition Letter
Hello,
I am writing this appeal to drop two courses (ENGL 258 and HIST 246) that I had taken in Fall 2021.
You may notice in my record that I had submitted and been granted an academic appeal on December 9th to drop a 2021 fall term class. I understand that you can not take multiple appeals regarding the same time period so I would first like to make it clear that this appeal is a result of extenuating circumstances that occurred after my previous appeal.
In November/December when my mental health began to drop, I had talked to QSAS and Queen's Mental Health services which produced a document confirming my Mild/Moderate circumstances which I had attached to my previous appeal. At the time, I only dropped one course because I still had the ability to complete the rest of my courses.
The timeline for this appeal is during winter break. Previously, I consistently communicated with my instructors and got academic considerations for my final assignments, all of which were pushed into the winter break. When the winter break started and I went home my circumstances got much worse for familial and private reasons unrelated to academic-stress which left me unable to complete my schoolwork. Of course, this left me failing in my classes. Without going into detail too much, my issues and inability to work had become much more severe to the point where I have become eligible for cognitive behavioral therapy which I am now taking. The whole process of getting into therapy took some time and I was finally able to get documentation of these personal issues on Jan 26th, which is why you are finally receiving an appeal now.
While I do not have access to my old appeal, I am sure that my hesitation to explicitly share my issues makes both my older and present appeal letters quite similar, and for that I apologize. If you need any more information to certify that these appeals are different, or for any reason at all, please let me know. I have attached both a doctor's note and a Queen's Verification of Confidential Extenuating Circumstances. The doctor's note vaguely details my newer circumstances and is the main document in regards to this appeal. The Queen's document was the documentation I had used in my previous appeal, I have attached it only for contextual purposes.
