Petition Letter
I do not attempt to make any excuses for my poor grade in this course, but I would like to explain the circumstances that affected my academic performance. Prior to my second midterm, I was involved in a dispute with my housemate over a large amount of utility payment. The dispute grew rather warm between me and my housemate who intentionally delayed his share of payment and my mind was occupied so intensely with the contemplation of my situation. Additionally, I had a long essay due on the same day as the midterm. To make the matters worse, my four-subject notebook that recorded all the important notes and graphs was stolen. I was ultimately worn out because I simply cannot cope with the overwhelming stress cause by frustration and anxiety. As a result of the combined pressures, I did extremely poor on my second midterm.
I have suffered attention deficit, so it is extremely difficult for me to stay focus on multiple tasks. As a frequent visitor of Queen¿¿s Health Counselling Service, I have received treatment from Dr. Arunima Khanna, a psychology professional who have provided me valuable advises to improve my learning and gradually helped me to overcome my attention deficit since November 2013. Given my mental state and all the sudden incidents, I am not capable of to concentrate, making multi-tasking very difficult for me.
In the light of these matters that hampered my studying effort, I hope you can allow me to drop Econ 240 after the academic deadline since this course no longer hold any meaning to me. I have dedicated to my studying throughout the four years of my college career and performed fairly well in every other courses, planning to graduate with full honour in November. A low grade in Econ 240 can drastically impact my further academic plan and as a proud undergraduate of Queen¿¿s University, I definitely do not want to leave a stain in the final stage of my college career. Please understand that I was facing a desperate condition and I do not want my effort to be in vain because of this course. Thank you for considering this appeal.
