Petition Letter
Hi, my name is Angela Lim and I am a first year student at Queens. I understand that I am submitting this form very late into the year but I was unaware that I could appeal my grade, my friend recently told me about it, so I decided to send this appeal in to drop my grade for ASTR 101: Astronomy 1: The Solar System. I have received a FAIL for this course and I was wondering if it is possible to appeal my grade. I ultimately chose this course as an elective coming into first year, hoping it would be fun and interesting. While the course was interesting, I wasn??t able to receive the grade I wanted. I will be honest, I tried my best for the assignment and studied hard for the exam. The quizzes, I felt very unmotivated after studying hard for the first quiz and receiving a bad mark, so I stopping trying for the quizzes. I know that was not smart of me. I did study extra hard for the exam and it was hard but the amount of work I did for ASTR did not show up on the results. I think coming into university from high school was a big change in the social environment and also the academic environment, the workload was heavier and the content was harder, I think I felt unmotivated and anxious to continue. Now I am adjusted into the university life and I feel much more confident after receiving help from upper years and my peers. I think I can do well in future classes but for my GPA to be better, I think dropping the grade I received for my ASTR 101 class would benefit me in the future. I am still adjusting and trying to make more sense of the university life, I understand I am going to have to work extra harder and ditch my old academic habits and obtain new ones that will help me in courses and understand the material better. Again, I am sorry for sending this appeal in so late into the year, I was unaware until recently. Please take my appeal into consideration, thank you.
