Petition Letter
Appeal Board of Queens University,
I am writing to you to appeal for a drop of 3 courses this semester including French 118, HLTH 101, and PSYC 305. This semester has taken an emotional and physical toll on me. When the semester began I was experiencing emotional abuse at home and moved several hours away with a friend who I have been sleeping on her couch for the past 3 months. Right as I began to adjust to this new living situation, my mother who I had experienced physical abuse from returned to the country. To say my mental health was fractured would be putting it mildly. As a result, taking my medication for ADHD and depression was an after thought as I left the medications at my previous home. Finding a doctor close to my friend has proven a challenge and I am on several waitlists. My friend managed to take me to my original doctor to get some of my medication but only this past week. On top of all of this, my friends mother who lives with her has experienced severe physical health concerns with cardiovascular problems and recently developed neuropathy with has placed a burden of care on myself and my friend to help her with daily needs. I also recently found out that both my younger brother and father contracted COVID-19. As a result of this, my school work has taken a hit with incomplete projects and assignments throughout the semester. My life is now back on track and I am taking my medication on a regular basis but it is to late to fix the damage for my classes. I have written to my professors and one has graciously allowed an incomplete grade and extension to complete the exam and coursework. The 3 I mentioned above did not accommodate my requests, therefore I am writing to you to drop the 3 courses. I have been in contact with my advisor, Caitlin Bruce, who has been helping me to remedy this situation who can be contacted if needed for more information. Caitlin has also agreed to write a letter supporting the decision to have these 3 courses dropped.
Thank you for your understanding,
Monica Mehareb
