Petition Letter
Dear Associate Dean (Academics),
I am appealing to drop GPHY352 and GNDS285 (Winter, 2022).
On March 18th, I woke up with extreme pain in my shoulder that would remain consistent until now. Since then, I have had to have many tests done, which resulted in a Bone Cancer diagnosis. I have had to constantly be on harsh pain medication in order to control the pain, which impairs my cognitive function. In addition, I have no mobility in one of my limbs and have not been able to attend classes since the 18th of March.
Due to my circumstance, I have not been able to do any work because of pain, loss of mobility, and multiple specialist appointments between Kingston and Toronto. We did not know if I would be well enough to complete the courses within the duration of the Incomplete extension (meaning I would have to have the course done by September 15th, 2022). Now that I have talked with more doctors, it is evident that I will not be able to do so, as I am unable to return to my studies indefinitely.
I am awaiting biopsy results to determine my treatment plan, which could take a very long time. Until then, I do not know the timeline for when I will be able to return to my studies.
