Petition Letter
Appeal Letter:
The reason that I am writing an appeal letter and asking for extra time in completing some IN Grade assignments is because my academic performance changed once I fell into a mental release breakdown. As this was the first year I was going to be away from home and dealing with things on my own, my mental health plummeted and interfered with my learning goals. I struggled to stay focused and on top of some final assignments within the Fall 2021 term. My major breakdown started at the beginning of October and got worse overtime, so I sought counselling. I was able to have more assignments handed in and completed, until December when my attempt happened. Because of the lack of family support, this time became a huge challenge for me and I decided to not work on much academics because I knew I was not going to do well anyways. Thankfully, I was granted IN grades, but once the Winter Term started, my mind blanked on the assignments I actually had. I had another attempt which led to my diagnosis in February, and I had a couple of assignments in the Winter Term that I was unable to complete as well. Thankfully, teachers were kind enough to try and help me, but because of my new diagnosis (Bipolar Disorder and BPD) and trying to learn myself, I completely shut school work out of the equation. I was also completing work for my DBT programs because I feared I was going to be put on meds if I did not do them. Because I am at a bit of a better place currently, I was wondering if it was possible to still hand in these assignments or be given extra time to complete them. I knew that even throughout this battle, I wanted to continue my studies and better my academics as this was a challenge that could keep my mind busy, so I was requesting that support. Thank you for your consideration and time.
Sincerely,
Aaliyah LaFleur
