Petition Letter
Dear Associates Director,
I am appealing the decision of the Requirement to Withdraw for a Minimum of One Year from the Bachelor of Health Sciences program. My name is Jade Wesley and I enrolled in the Queen's University Health Sciences which began in the fall of 2021 and the graduating year of 2025. Back in September, I had made the move from Sudbury, Ontario to attend University and leave behind what I called home for a year, in which I lived alongside my older brother. My parents had gotten me an apartment off-campus and I expected myself to succeed. As the fall 2021 term began on September 7, 2021, I tried to clean the space bar of my MacBook keyboard, but it broke, in which I had to take it into Jump+ to have the keyboard replaced. The turnaround time to have my MacBook completely repaired was supposed to be 3-5 days, but in my case, it took about two weeks. In those two weeks, I was attending class with my iPad that had no keyboard as an alternative. In that span of time, I was unable to take notes out of class, as I did not have the resources, as I was trying to stray away from using paper and reach an all electronic study life. It was also hard on myself trying to learn as a new University student in my first year. I was not prepared physically or mentally for the strenuating learning circumstances that the University had to offer. As the school year continued into the 2022 winter, Covid-19 played a huge factor in my schooling, as we moved into a safer environment, which was online learning. At this point, it was difficult to stay focused, which led me to be extremely behind on my notes and I did not have the mental capacity to continue on and stress myself out to the point where I could not handle it anymore. This problem continued on through my whole school year. Now that I have thought about and reassessed the situation, I feel as though my 0.61 cumulative GPA is not a hindering factor of my education, but I can look back at my mistake and fix it for my future education, as I plan to take it seriously.
