Petition Letter
Over the last number of months I have been seeing Dr. Mike Condra, Director of Health, Counselling, and Disability Services, regarding health challenges I have been having. Dr. Condra is able to provide any medical documentation that you may need on my behalf. At this point in time, we do not feel that I have the mental capacity to study and/or write the final exam for ENSC 320 (Wildlife Issues). I am struggling with extremely low mood, low energy, and lack of concentration, all of which make it exceptionally difficult to study or perform on exams. Additionally, I believe that it is important for me to immediately begin prioritizing my health and wellbeing, and enroll in a more extensive mental health program alongside my parents, at home in Waterloo as soon as possible.
I pride myself as an individual who works hard and devotes much of my time to studying and wanting to excel academically. As such, I am finding it really difficult that mental illness is inhibiting my success at this time. I am concerned that writing the exam while I am struggling with my health issues would not be an accurate representation of my understanding of the course material. I have worked very hard all semester, and would be quite discouraged to see my marks be affected significantly because of this.
As such, I am applying for Aegrotat Standing for ENSC 320, with support from the course instructor Dr. Lavoie and medical documentation from Dr. Condra. I believe that my completed coursework for ENSC 320 is a good representation of my abilities as a student, and if I were feeling adequate, I feel confident that I could perform to the standards I have set for myself on the final exam. At this time, I do not feel adequate to perform, and unfortunately, I cannot establish a timeline in which I can determine when I will feel well enough to complete the examination (as is the nature of the illness).
I am willing to meet if you need to discuss this further.
I appreciate your support through this difficult time.
Thanks,
(Emily) Paige Hanmer
