Petition Letter
I am appealing to add the course RELS354 to my fall term course load in order to complete a minor in religious studies on time for my graduation this spring. I was unaware that I was missing 3 courses to complete my religion minor and I reached out to an academic advisor Sept 20th to confirm if I was able to graduate with both a major in Life Sciences and a minor in Religious Studies this coming graduation period. I had back and forth talk with my academic advisor and she informed me that the only way I would be able to complete my degree on time would be to take a 7-course load next semester. I believe that due to my mental health issues from last year and overall stress for my upcoming graduation and applications to masters programs, a 7-course load would hinder my ability to show my true potential and enjoy my learning experience here at Queens. My only other option was to complete the remaining one course over the summer, but I would only graduate next Fall. Unfortunately, next fall I will not be in the country as I will hopefully be pursuing a master's degree in the UK where my program is offered. It would be a real shame to miss a once in a lifetime graduation ceremony due to my miscalculated planning. I am asking that this appeal be recognized as determination to get the most out of my learning experience before I leave university and the option to pursue another area of interest is closed to me.
