Academic Plan
Among 6 enrolled courses of this term, 3 of them are courses that I failed in the past. While studying them all over again, I have found their close connections with new courses. Solidifying familiar materials helps learning deeper and wider topics; the other way round, new courses enhance understanding of basic materials from different perspectives. As I have tried attending all courses (including STAT463) in the first two weeks, I enjoy them very much so far. Being familiar with contents of repeated courses, I will focus on improvements of the assignments and plan them earlier than new courses to guarantee sufficient effort and time for all to adjust.
Through self-reflections, I can conclude that my failures were largely the outcome of an impatient and lightheaded attitude. Being confused about career path and facing abstract theories led to unwise study plans. I had a hard time concentrating which led to unproductive time consumption. As a result, I missed some assignment submissions and did not do well in submitted ones either. In summer, I did some readings and research in other fields, and realized how useful the tool of statistics can be and how it brings such a clear scope to look at the world. Now I do have the initiatives to dig instead of simply passively perceiving textbook formulas. It also has built up my interest in other advanced Statistics courses that needs the prerequisite of Stat463. It is another important reason that I want to take Stat463 this term. The way of thinking changes the method of learning, and it gives me more courage to handle heavy workloads instead of being distracted and giving up easily again.
As I am clear about my weakness, I will seek help wisely to follow up my plan. Inquiring instructors, ASUS and academic advisor timely when needed will to adjust appropriate plans towards my goals. I did not use much resource before and I am very thankful for the convenient accessibility and support. I believe that with reasonable efforts, a clear mindset and a determined attitude, challenges could be well taken.
