Petition Letter
Dear Associate Dean,
I am appealing to drop the following courses: ARTH 120 (Fall/Winter), FILM 110 (Fall/Winter), PHIL 157 (Fall). I have decided to take a leave of absence from Queen??s University due to an extenuating circumstance that occurred beyond my control in the Fall semester of 2021. I had an nonconsensual sexual experience during that time. Despite this, I tried my hardest to complete my school year and life as I had planned before the incident. I dropped courses in my first year to lighten my course load, and tried my best at the time to attend my courses. By the end of my first year, I had failed some courses and due to that I currently still consider it as a first year. After all this, I tried to come back again to continue my studies but my mental health deteriorates when I am back on this campus. I have spent a long time trying to heal from my trauma and while I have healed some, I have a long way to go. I have stopped attending my lectures around the October 3rd, and my tutorials around October 24th. I have decided to drop the remainder of my courses and take a leave of absence. During my leave of absence, I will take some rest for myself as I try and figure out how to get better to try and eventually continue my studies. I will return home to Vancouver, and be surrounded by my support system. I will work and try and get therapy and professional help.
Sincerely,
Riley Kim
