Petition Letter
Dear Associate Dean of Arts & Science,
I am petitioning for a late drop of my MATH 110 course taught by Dr. Noriko Yui as I have been experiencing mental health challenges during the brunt of the Fall Term. I suffer from depression, which was exacerbated as I missed some treatment options due to the distance from my doctors. I also had a family emergency as my sister was sick for a period of time and for my mental health I had to return home for a week.
As a result, I have not been able to keep up with the more rigorous coursework of MATH 110 and have fallen significantly behind. I see very little chance of me having success in the Winter term as I have not properly absorbed the material from the Fall term. I have realized this very late, I was convinced I could make up for these discrepancies but the toll on my mental health has been too great.
I plan to instead take MATH 112 and CISC 102 to fulfill my degree requirements. I have an approved AP transfer credit for 6 units of HIST 1XX so I will not be missing the units I usually would for dropping a course for overall degree completion. I will be seeking a psychiatrist that can accommodate the distance over the rest of Fall Term and Winter break so I will be better equipped going into the next term.
I am convinced I will fail MATH 110 outright if I continue with it into the Winter term. This petition is my proactive approach to ensure I will still be on track for my degree plan as a linear algebra course is required to continue my second year at Queen??s as a Computing major and summer courses do not seem feasible.
This letter serves as my formal petition for a late drop from MATH 110 and my explanation of the circumstances. Thank you for your consideration.
Sincerely,
Sree Bandi
