Queen??s University
To Whom It May Concern:
My name is Yamin Ben Letaifa, and I am a student in my fourth year of my Bachelor??s Degree in Life Sciences Specialization. This letter pertains to a request for a course on my transcript to have a DR standing, as was advised by an academic counselor in the faculty of Arts and Science.
I completed the course MICR360 during the first semester of my third year of study (Fall 2021), a period when the university was fully converted to online classes towards the end of the semester due to a spike in reported COVID-19 cases. While my performance in this course was adequate for the majority of the semester, I experienced a number of difficulties during this transition from in-person to online classes.
For instance, I was exposed to several confirmed COVID-19 cases and was forced to schedule PCR testing and abruptly alter my housing accommodations in order to isolate in accordance with government regulation. Shortly after this period of isolation, I contracted the virus, significantly diminishing my ability to study and prepare for the (deferred) final exam which comprised 60% of the total course mark. Due to these factors, in combination with confusion and uncertainty during these unprecedented times, I ultimately achieved a failing grade on the final examination, thus failing the course. My first option was to retake the course to correct this failing mark, but was informed that the course is no longer offered at Queen??s, and there is no equivalent substitute.
For the before mentioned reasons, I consulted an academic advisor in the faculty, who directed me to your office to appeal for a DR standing for the course due to extenuating circumstances, as it is considerably harming my GPA and prospects for post-graduate education or further career pursuits.
If you should require any further information from me, I would be more than happy to provide details on the situation or my request itself.
I thank you in advance for your kind consideration.
