Petition Letter
I am appealing to drop CISC/CMPE 327, taken Fall 2022, after the drop deadline due to anxiety attacks, depressive episodes, and sleep deprivation suffered during August 2022 to December 2022. These extenuating circumstances beyond my control hindered my ability to attend most of the lectures, complete assignments, and some in-class quizzes for the Fall 22' semester, for which CISC 327 was most impacted. The course heavily focuses on a final group-project submission, in which assignments are directly tied in as key stages in the development of the group project. Anxiety attacks, which induced depressive episodes and sleep deprivation, prevented me from attending most of my lectures, learning the course material and working towards a group project with other classmates. In attempt to catch up on work I made and was granted long-term academic consideration, under the basis of my anxiety attacks and depressive episodes as support by a doctor's note, but my attacks persisted through the second-half of the semester. Additionally I made attempts to attend lectures and submit any course materials in order to begin catching up on my academics. Furthermore, over reading week I consulted with mental health professionals to help develop coping routines to deal with these attacks. However due to personal/family issues and illness, I was once again afflicted with crippling anxiety attacks and heavy sleep deprivation, preventing me from attending lectures. Also trying to balance implementing and following these new routines while trying to complete my academics put even more strain on my ability to complete my work. For these extenuating circumstances, extending through the semester, I am appealing to drop this course after the drop deadline for the Fall 22?? semester. Thank you.
