Submit an Academic Petition or Appeal

Petition Letter: Dear Associate Dean,
My name is Meagan Man, student number 20286303, I am a second-year student in Mathematics and Computer Engineering. I am petitioning to add a late course past the official deadline, January 20th, 2023. The course I am requesting to add is CISC 121, Lecture 6035.
On Friday, January 20th, 2023 I decided to go through with switching my program from Mathematics Engineering with a sub-plan in Computing and Communications to Computing, Mathematics, and Analytics. This change would require me to transfer from the Faculty of Applied Science to the Faculty of Arts and Science. As soon as the advisors office for Arts and Science opened up on Friday morning, I went to book an appointment with an academic advisor to start the process of switching out of Engineering. In this appointment, I was informed I would have to apply through OUAC in February, but she could not definitively tell me what courses in Engineering would transfer over to the Computing degree. I was told I would have to go through my personally assigned academic advisor for Mathematics and Engineering to confirm which courses will transfer and which courses I need to add by the end of the night. I emailed Jen Powell, the academic advisor for Mathematics and Engineering, twice and did not get a response all day. For the rest of the day while I was waiting for Jen Powell to email me back, I called her office and no one answered, I emailed the advising team for Computer Science and no one answered, I emailed the Undergraduate Admissions email and no one answered, and I tried to book another appointment with the Academic Advisor for Arts and Science but everything was booked up for the day. After conducting my own research on what classes are mandatory for the computing degree, I did my best to add any course for which I had the prerequisites. However, I was missing every single prerequisite for a second-year course for Computing, Mathematics, and Analytics because I needed to have completed CISC 121. However, when I tried to add this course through Solus, an exclusion error prevented me from doing so. I have completed all the prerequisite courses for CISC 121 but the exclusion for this course is APSC 143 which is Intro to Computing Science for Engineers. I took this course in my first year of engineering. It was beyond my control to override this exclusion error, and I contacted everyone I could with no response. One day later, on Saturday, January 21, 2023, I received an email from Microsoft Outlook, informing me that my emails had not been sent to Jen Powell because recipient's email system refused to accept a connection from your email system. I will provide proof of the date and time of these emails from Microsoft, as well as what I had initially sent to Jen Powell. Also, students were given until January 20th to make such decisions about adding or dropping courses, so I made my decision within the given timeline but due to my email not being sent to my personal Academic Advisor, I was not able to fix the exclusion error in Solus. I received some emails back the following week but was told by almost everyone to go to another person to figure this out. The Undergraduate Chair of Computing emailed me on Wednesday, January 25th, 2023 saying they will approve my transfer into CISC 121 but that I had to do this paperwork first.
